2019 - It’s a concept album, a daring thing in these days of shuffle modes and short attention. It’s about Mississippi — both the big river and the troubled-but-beautiful state — though Brace is a Washington D.C. guy, Cooper is from South Carolina, and Jutz grew up in Germany’s Black Forest. Riverland finds Brace, Cooper, and Jutz playing with bass honcho Mark Fain, drumming genius Lynn Williams, fiddle thrush Tammy Rogers, banjo masters Justin Moses and Terry Baucom, and mandolin man Mike Compton. Eric Brace, Peter Cooper and Thomm Jutz collaborate on yet another album and pen 13 out of the 14 songs. All three are accomplished musicians with a considerable catalogue of music between them. Brace and Cooper, two former journalists, have worked together for many years and been Grammy nominated. Jutz has had a career that includes playing in the bands of Nanci Griffith and Mary Gauthier.
