Such is the evidence on Earl Scruggs and Friends, what with the likes of Elton John (on a reimagining of COUNTRY COMFORT), Melissa Etheridge, and Sting sitting in. But the day really belongs to Scruggs, whose banjo solos on his first new recording in 17 years remain a wonder of inventiveness and economy, and to the country-rooted artists joining him here...courtesy of an all-star instrumental lineup whose members include Leon Russell, Albert Lee (with a fabulous solo), Vince Gill, Marty Stuart, and Steve Martin, in addition to the Scruggs family and others.
