2019 - These ballads and other songs of America’s Old West, were originally released in 1965 as a 20 tracks concept double LP. It includes Carl Perkins’ “The Ballad Of Boot Hill”, “Streets Of Laredo”, and the sole single from the album, “Mr. Garfield”, describing the shock of the population after the assassination of President James Garfield. The stories told here are about “The Wild West”, whether they are “true” or not. Johnny Cash is accompanied by Luther Perkins, The Statler Brothers, The Carter Family and on autoharp Mother Maybelle Carter. By the way, this album’s mythmaking “Hardin Wouldn’t Run” provided the basis for Bob Dylan’s mythmaking “John Wesley Harding” LP.
