2015 - This new issue reminds me of that set, which really was a labor of love, except that the new “package” includes snippets of the original musicians who trekked to Bristol to make some of the earliest rural music to come out on commercial records, including the first ever recordings of Jimmie Rodgers and The Carter Family. In the hands of a lesser producer, this project could easily have turned sour, but Carl Jackson, though based in Nashville, is a man of skill, integrity and good taste, and we thank him for this fascinating CD. Accompanied by a 24-page booklet of notes, the 2-disc set features 18 songs and tunes by such artists as Vince Gill, Doyle Lawson, Dolly Parton, Sheryl Crow, Jesse McReynolds and the Chuck Wagon Gang among others.
